Description of Project

Established in 2015 as an indirect competitor to Uber and local hyper-local logistics players, Rapido Bike Taxi has witnessed tremendous growth over the past five years. For the hyper-local delivery business of Rapido, it on-boards “Delivery Captains” on a pan-India basis daily. In 2019, this number of daily on-boarded Delivery Captains touched 2000, and at that point, Rapido decided to test and contract IN-D for it’s AI-based automated Digital KYC to increase the processing times of on-boarding of Delivery Captains.

The on-boarding process involves collection of Driving License, RTO Registration Card, PAN Card and Aadhaar Card of every Delivery Captain. Specific attributes from these documents are then extracted, and document numbers are verified with Government databases to ensure authenticity. This process was done via a semi-automatic OCR process that consumed an average of 15 minutes per Delivery Captain. With IN-D’s AI engine, the processing time per Delivery Captain has reduced to just 25 seconds. More importantly, on-boarding friction for Delivery Captains has reduced significantly because since IN-D’s solution was delivered as an API to Rapido, which Rapido integrated in the back-end of its supply-side mobile app, Delivery Captains now receive a near-instant notification of their on-boarding status.

Exact steps performed by IN-D for Rapido include: auto-classification of, data extraction from, and verification of identity documents submitted as images.
